A tight, clean, sound copy in brown paper covered boards with gold lettering on the spine with minor overall shelf wear mainly in the form of bumping on the top right corners. The dust jacket shows very minor overall wear mainly in the form of some very, very light edge wear around the spine top and bottom edges and right corners plus there is some very light rubbing alongthe spine and right edges plus there is some very, very light rubbing overall on the front. This is a title in the publisher's Vision Critical Study series. A book that examines British historical novels appearing from 1859 to 1866 by Charles Dickens, George Eliot, Elizabeth Gaskell, and George Meredith. The author examines the shifting attitudes of novelists through the Victorian experience of rapid urbanization, popular agitation, and revolution and the eventual move towards greater democracy and its effect on conservative feeling.
