About This Item

1892. Early days in Marion County, OH, including the communities of Marion, Caledonia, LaRue, Prospect, New Bloomington, Waldo, Green Camp and Three Locusts, are recalled through a mixture of colorful tales and factual data in this NEW 17 Page Booklet reprinted from the 1892 Centennial edition of Henry Howe's Historical Collections of Ohio, The Ohio Guide (a 1940 WPA Writers Project), and other sources. The spiral bound booklet is printed single-sided on 60# paper, with the fine print enlarged for easier reading. A sheet of clear vinyl has been added to protect the front cover. Among the many and diverse topics covered in the booklet are: the Soldier's Memorial Chapel; the "War Roads" of the War of 1812; Early Settlers; the Old Style of Doing Business; and a narrative of a Stage Coach Journey from Sandusky to Columbus by way of Marion in 1834. Genealogy Buffs will find a list of 1888 county officers and businesses. The Howe history covers the development of this area until about 1890, while excerpts from the WPA book, give a nostalgic glimpse from a 1940 vantage point, including interesting historical notes, especially as they relate to sightseeing possibilities. A 1933 look at the history of newspapers in the county, a brief article on Warren G. Harding from a 1941 history, a 1960 feature article on a ghostly exhibit, a map showing the 88 Ohio counties and a map of 1805 Ohio are also included. . Limited Edition Reprint. Spiral/Comb . New/No Jacket. Illus. by Henry Howe. 8.5" x 11". Private Press.
