Folio. 12x8¾ inches. 743pp. (paginated continuously) plus colored frontispiece and numerous illustrations, mostly from photographs. Blind and gilt-stamped cowhide, gilt over brown buckram. A very fine, as new set with matching publisher's slipcase. Includes the new introduction by J. Frank Dobie. "One of the `Big Four' cattle books, and after Freeman's Prose and Poetry, the most important on the subject. The book contains a great wealth of information, and is a cornerstone in any range library ... Supposedly most of the first edition was destroyed in a warehouse fire, hence its rarity today. About Argonaut Book Shop
The Argonaut Book Shop was founded in 1941 in the middle of the financial district of San Francisco. The Argonaut was a founding member of the Antiquarian Booksellers\' Association of America and has been a member in good standing ever since. The Shop is now located just three blocks from Union Square in downtown San Francisco and is open six days a week. Parking facilities include ample street space and a parking garage close by.
