About This Item
Paris: Chez Sailland & Nyon, 1770. In French. Volumes 1-6 are dated 1770; 7-10 dated 1771 (originally published as a six-volume set). A comprehensive work on atmospherics, weather, weather-related natural phenomena, and other observations on phenomena such as the aurora borealis. Folding table in volume 6, no illustrations. Full mottled French calf, dual spine labels in tan and natural calf, raised spine bands, gilt decorated compartments, edges speckled with red. Most likely the original, or at least contemporary, bindings. Expected edgewear and rubbing with additional light old insect damage to a few of the covers, mainly chipping, and some minute insect pinholes to the spines - none of the insect damage affects the interiors of the books. One spine label is absent and one volume has a chip at the spine head, one volume has some splitting at the top rear joint but all joints are sound, covers well attached. There are other small spine chips, etc. The text blocks are sound with no loosened pages, pages clean and free from any noted chips or tears, effectively no foxing, no names or other markings. Externally good, internally near fine. . Hard Cover. Very Good. 16mo (16.5 cm tall).
