Scarce, the only edition of The Suites to Buffon after: Reaumur, Geoffroy, Degeer, Roese,l Linnaeus, Fabricius. Reviewed, enlarged, and upgraded according to current knowledge ... (1830). A very good set with 117 plates of which 114 hand-coloured, the plates are numbered 1-109 but with 8 additional bis plates (30 bis, 50 bis, 59 bis, 65 bis, 98 bis, 102 bis, 105 bis & 109 bis.) There are no obviously missing plates. This work was issued with plain or hand-coloured plates; the latter much more desirable as in this copy. For collation of plates for each volume see below. 16mo 90 x 135mm. Bound in contemporary quarter red morocco with four raised bands to the spines. , gilt lettering and decoration. Red and black marbled boards. Bindings very good with a little rubbing and light general wear. Contents clean and tight, original marbled end papers, no inscriptions but for previous booksellers notes and collation. Plates very good and clean, several plates to vol. IV with a small stain to the lower blank outer corner, but not affecting printed area. Several internal hinges a little worn, but all volumes remain strongly bound. A very good set. [Collation of plates for each volume as follows. Vol. I: 11 h/c plts.; vol. II: 11 h/c plts.; vol. III: 11 h/c plts. inc. plt.30 bis; vol. IV: 13 h/c plts.; vol. X: 13 plts. of which 11 h/c, inc. plts. 102 bis, 105 bis & 109 bis.] Sheepskin.
