First Edition. Hardcover. Copy #7 of 195 numbered & signed by Roth. First book edition of a story published in Partisan Review in 1986. One of the scarcest limited editions of Roth's (there was no trade edition - only this signed one), especially since it is believed not all the copies of this edition were bound and completed. 8vo red silk cloth with morocco leather spine. Beautifully produced and very uncommon. PLEASE NOTE that all our First Editions are also First Printings, unless we specifically note otherwise. All our dust jackets are protected in clear mylar covers.

Lewisburg, PA: Press of Appletree Alley, 1995. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Near fine. Quarto, 58pp. First separate edition of this short story, which first appeared in the Partisan Review in 1986. A crisp, clean copy, very near fine, with a tiny smudge at the top edge, and the spine just a tinge cocked and faded. In the publisher's slipcase, fine. This is number 58 of 195 limited copies SIGNED by Roth on the limitation page. A very nicely produced edition. This copy with a typed letter from publisher Barnard Taylor to an old friend. The letter, of 35 lines, discusses in significant detail the origins of this book. Taylor notes that the woman in the story is based on Roth's first wife. He adds: "She had problems, of course, but Roth can be difficult to live with as see his divorce from Claire Bloom! Who would leave Claire for God's Sake!!!
