New York: Playbill, 1964. Portfolio. First edition. The plates are all Fine; the folder is Very Good+ with some light scuffing/soiling and the edges somewhat flattened; complete as issued. SHIPS THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY, WRAPPED IN PADDING, IN A BOX. Ten loose 11- x 14-inch plates, housed in a printed blue paper folder with an illustrated plate mounted to the front. Each plate features a theatrical caricature drawn by Al Hirshfeld for Playbill magazine. The ten images are: Carol Channing as Lady Macbeth: Zero Mostel as Peter Pan: Ethel Merman and Ernest Borgnine in "Private Lives;" Bert Lahr as King Lear; Bea Lillie as Ophelia; Jimmy Durante as Professor Higgins; Sammy Davis and Robert Preston as the Dromio Twins in "Boys Fom Syracuse;" Barry Goldwater and Lyndon Johnson in "Waiting for Godot;" Sir John Gielgud in "Tobacco Road;" and David Merrick as Santa Claus. LAID-IN are two advertisements illustrated by Hirschfeld and a review of a 2001 exhibition of his work.
