About This Item

Dust Jacket: Moderate rubbing on panel surfaces and spine edge, paper-clip impression at the top of the front panel. The flaps are unclipped and the inside of the jacket is clean and only lightly toned. Strong and sturdy, a complimentary protective Mylar cover is included with this purchase (photo). Book: The board tips are bent (photo), the pages and paste-downs are lightly toned. Aside from the author signature (below) this copy has no marks or entries, the spine and board junction is firm and strong. Board and spine surfaces are unblemished, with gilt titling on the spine still bright and distinct (photo). Author signature. VERY RARE. Dedicated signature, dated August, 1977, expressing appreciation for assistance, presumably one of the names cited in "Acknowledgements." The dedication occurred in Sheffield, UK. The recipient's name is scratched out, probably to keep privacy (photo). "Arthrography of the hip has been practiced for over 40 years, but its value as a useful method of investigation has not been generally accepted. Difficulties in technique and interpretation may explain some lack of appreciation. Arthrography of any joint should be practiced regularly to facilitate technique and to gain the necessary experience of interpretation. The surgeon or radiologist interested in this technique should have access to a regular flow of patients. The arthrogram can produce valuable information regarding the pathology of the condition which may influence treatment or prove of interest in retrospective study. In congenital dislocation of the hip routine arthrography in the past led to greater understanding of intra-articular obstruction and to the appreciation of some complications of treatment in the early moments of life. Dr Grech has made a stimulating contribution in this monograph which describes technique in the greatest detail. He provides useful guidelines for interpretation and detailed case records which will attract clinical interest. All hip conditions where arthrography might be indicated are described. The author's work is addressed primarily to radiologists or surgeons who might wish to practice arthrography, but there is much in this monograph which will interest those who are already familiar with the technique." From Wikipedia: Hip arthroscopy refers to the viewing of the interior of the hip joint through an arthroscope and the treatment of hip pathology through a minimally invasive approach. This technique is sometimes used to help in the treatment of various joint disorders and has gained popularity because of the small incisions used and shorter recovery times when compared with conventional surgical techniques. Hip arthroscopy was not feasible until recently, new technology in both the tools used and the ability to distract the hip joint has led to a recent surge in the ability to do hip arthroscopy and the popularity of it."
