Some say he was the greatest ever - a rare combination of power and speed who made acrobatic catches and never failed to get a hit when his team needed it most. The son of an Oklahoma miner, he was the anchor in center field for a Yankees team that won seven World Championships, he was three times the league MVP, he won the Triple Crown in 1956, and in 1961 he dueled teammate Roger Maris in the most exciting single-season home run contest ever. This volume was published by Century in New York, yet this 50 volume LIMITED EDITION seems to have been controlled by Bowen-Merrill. Opposite the copyright page appears: "Of this First Impression of Poems Here at Home, Fifty copies…..have been issued with an autographed portrait on japan vellum (signed by) The Bowen-Merrill Co. (printed) This is Number (penned) 14." A SIGNED FRONTISPIECE PORTRAIT OF THE AUTHOR is present. 4 1/2" x 7", 187 pages in Very Good Plus condition, with some smudging and light tanning. HATFIELD BOOKS AND MEMORABILIA, a FIVE STAR SELLER, presents a VERY RARE ASSOCIATION COPY of the 1828 collection of historical Scottish prose and verse, JACOBITE MINSTRELSY. Though yet unverified, the early owner, signed Edward Sugden, is presumably EDWARD SUGDEN, First Baron of St. Leonards, Lord Chancellor of Ireland under both King William IV and Queen Victoria, and (for one year only) Lord Chancellor of Great Britain under Queen Victoria. 1828 is the stated publishing date, while 1829 appears in Roman numerals on title page, making this a very early printing. 3 1/4" x 5 1/4", 362 pages, plus 8 pages of index. No jacket as designed. Cover is marbled grey and brown boards with ¼ bound brown cloth, including at corners, titled in gold gilt on the binding. The front cover is separated, making the overall condition Very Good rather than Near Fine. A note follows the final printed page: "Robert Malcolm, printer." A sales sticker appears on front reverse… Read More
