Rotterdam: Fransois van Hoogstraeten, 1668. Full Vellum. Very Good. 4to. 18.5 by 14 cm. [16], 199, [9] pp. With title and 60 additional high Baroque copper engravings, slightly over half-page in size, by de Hooghe. Landwehr 325. Each emblem with a Dutch caption and either Latin or Spanish (one in Italian) caption as well, followed by Dutch verse. The title might be translated as "Fore-court of Souls". This was the first book illustrated by de Hooghe. Contemporary or near contemporary vellum. Large tornado shaped stain on rear board top to bottom. A few more modest stains elsewhere on binding, and some light soiling. Occasional stains within. One leaf with big bite out of margin, not touching text. Several leaves in beginning and end with rough edges. Otherwise predominantly clean beyond expected age toning.
