1750. Rare printing of Doctor Faust's chapbook in Dutch. Woodcut on title, 58 (repeated) woodcut illustrations. A total of 60 vignettes. Complete. More recent paper covers. These are somewhat rubbed with significant rubbing and loss to the spine. Written number to the front cover. The date c.1750 is printed on the remnant of a catalogue label stuck to the front cover. The impressions of the engravings are somewhat are somewhat blurred. P. 41, repeated on p. 76, the illustrations are not woodcuts but metalcuts. The shape of the heads of the nails with which the plates were mounted on wood are printed on many of them. A nice example. 86 (2) pp. 205 x 165 mm (8 x 6½ inches). Each of the nine colour plates with its own tissue guard. Corners of boards rubbed and slight sun fading to boards. Hinge slightly weak but holding. (This has been reinforced with archival tape to the inside rear hinge). Text in Dutch. 350 x 270 mm (13¾ x 10¾ inches). Rare publication of theater decorations by the Dutch artist François-Joseph PfeifferJr. (Liège 1778-1835). Illustrated with 9 lithograph plates (including portrait) with facing tissue guards. With accompanying letter-press text within red ornamental borders. Contains a biography by Gerit van Ernst Koning (1794-1853), and verse descriptions by J. van Lennep (1802-1868). It also includes a short list of theater scenes created by Pfeiffer.

An excellent copy of this hard to find monograph edited by Marc Felix and focused on the the traditional knives and derivatives of Central Africa, particularly the DRC. This volume continues the study of sickle weapons from volume numbers 1 and 2. Slight shelf wear along cover edges and spine. Also a small crease on the front cover near the bottom corner. All pages are in new condition. Illustrations and b&w photos, with technical descriptions throughout. Also includes maps.
