New York: G. F. Nesbitt, corner of Wall and Water Sts, 1845. Very good condition. Handbill with an elegant engraved British royal coat of arms at the top, for this New York City based maker of metallic pens, Herts & Sons. The crest is surmounted with the claim, "By Royal Letters Patent", and the text of the advertisement urges buyers to verify that the pen is stamped with "Herts & Sons' Patent, 1845".
Henry Herts opened his steel pen factory in Birmingham England in 1841, and then moved with his sons to New York where a factory was established at 509 Broome Street, where stationery and possibly pens were made. Printed on yellow paper, in a variety of type fonts. 5 x 81/2"
