About This Item
Very good. Two pages (Approx. 8" x 5") on War Department stationary. Sargent is the Quartermaster of the Second U. S. Cavalry. Written to Mr. E. S. Fales, the Editor of the Mail & Express in New York. Sargent is now in Washington "to help General H. C. Corbin organize the Volunteer forces..." Some literary content as well. Sargent was a graduate of West Point and had been professor of Military Science and Tactics at the University of Illinois, Champagne. He would later write a definitive three volume history of the Campaign at Santiago de Cuba.
