About This Item
Cincinnati: Geo. D. Newhall & Co, 1878. Hardcover. Wide 24mo. Brown cloth spine with green pictorial paper over boards. 157pp, (3pp). Good plus. Boards quite age toned, rubbed and scuffed, though internally tight and very good. Decent first edition of this significant and very uncommon hymn collection. Interestingly, though not so marked, it hails from the library of Mahlon D. Manson (1820-95), a Union general in the Civil War and Indiana politician. Front flyleaf bears large brown ink ownership signature of a "Miss Rosa B Rogers / Manson / Ind" -- Manson Indiana being a tiny community in central Indiana named after the general in 1874. What the general's relationship was to early Manson resident Rogers is not known.
