New York: Random House, 1967. First Edition. Hardcover with Dust Jacket. Very Good+/Very Good. Joseph del Gaudio (jacket design). 8vo. Pp. 278. Black cloth, titles stamped in red and silver foil on the spine and illustration on the cover, black topstain: boards square, slight bleeding of black dye to top edge of preliminaries (please see third photo), else leaves crisp and bright. In the three color photo illustrated coated dust jacket with price $4.95 intact on the front flap: spine ends with shallow chips, light scuffs and indentations, red and orange notably unfaded on the spine. First edition, first printing of Thompson's account of the Oakland and San Francisco chapters of the feared motorcycle gang, viewed from the inside to counter the menacing fictions. Thompson's first book.

A well preserved copy, letterpress printed at The Book Press Inc., Brattleboro VT. Dust jacket, with the bright spine panel, is now preserved in a removable clear archival sleeve.
