Wrappers and interior pages have chipping to fore edges and nicks, creasing to top edges; Includes full page photograph of the Hell Gate bridge, a fold out "Study for Improvement, vicinity of Hell Gate-East River, drawn by Commissioner Smith, and a large (32"x12") fold-out topographical map of New York Harbor drawn by Spofford in 1911.

Front hinge starting, extremities worn, cloth lightly soiled, still very good. Whitman's grandson, John R. Whitman, married Christine Todd, who went on to be a Republican Governor of New Jersey and Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency.
