London: The Brendin Publishing Company,, 1936. In the scarce dust jacket First edition, first impression, one of 300 copies only. This rare title is H.D.'s only work for children, a fable begun in 1924 as a pacifist tract. She wrote it while living in Vaud, Switzerland, and had it published for distribution to her friends. Small quarto. Original green paper boards, spine lettered in black, front cover lettered in black within black rules. With dust jacket. Black and white vignette illustrations in the text by George Plank. Spine ends bumped, tiny chip at foot, edges toned with a little wear, inner hinge cracked but firm at pp. 56-7; jacket sunned, slight loss at spine ends and upper corners, split at foot of front joint, a few short closed tears, top edge creased, a few splash marks on front panel, unclipped; a very good copy in like jacket.
