About This Item
[Los Angeles?], 1900. 6x8" photograph mounted to black board. Some darkening to corners, otherwise in nice shape. Board worn at edges, with a number stamped on the back. Very faint, illegible writing/signature to bottom corner of front of board.
A nice captioned image of a mule-drawn wagon full of sugar beets and surrounded by 4 farm workers in Southern California around the turn of the century. The sugar beet industry was fairly strong in the area from around 1890 until the 1930s. Several regions in the Los Angeles area were the site of farms, including Anaheim, Irvine, Santa Ana, the Cahuenga and San Fernando Valleys.
