Massive volume, 864 pages, 365 b/w illus., 9.75 x 6.25"" x 2"". Includes cutting edge literature (e.g. Dickens- still more ""Little Dorrit"" installments- will it never end?), current events (U.S. & world-wide), history, biography, travel, fashion, humor, science, etc. Samples include: early New England settlers, Alice Maude, Charleston, Alix Thuriot Thorne, the Education of American Women, the Grizzly Bear, siege of Fort Atkinson Kansas, Corsica, Russia, the Gold Region of North Carolina, Java, the Shakers. Brown marbled board covers w/ red leather spine & corners in remarkably good condition- show less than average soil, rubbing, edge & corner wear. NO chips, frays, soft corners, sun discolor, hinge splits or repairs, NOT ex library. Binding is tight & square; gold spine lettering & decoration are crisp & intact- copy displays very well. Endpapers toned/ foxed (appears to be from binding glue); title page & text show very little spotting- lightly toned. Toning to outside edge of text block- not severe.Text is tight, appears unmarked. Copy NOT shaken. Totally readable. A handsome, well preserved copy.
