About This Item

This is a mylar-wrapped copy of Harlot's Ghost, the 11th of the 13 novels written by the American writer Norman Mailer (1923-2007).
Narrated by Harry Hubbard, a second-generation CIA man, the novel looks into the depths of the American soul and the soul of Hugh Tremont Montague, code named Harlot, a CIA man obsessed.

This is not only a copy of the first printing, it's a copy from the first print run in which the bindery made a huge mistake--it put the covers on backwards and upside-down. So the cover which you see in photo # is on the back, with the words 'Norman Mailer' on the bottom. And the text on the spine is upside-down.

It is 1310 pages, including indexes. It weighs 4 lbs. This copy has not been read but the original owner put a bookplate in it (it's attractive and can be removed).

There is shelfwear to the spine; it looks like fading, but it's dusty so it can be brushed up.

Otherwise pristine.

Synopsis

With unprecedented scope and consummate skill, Norman Mailer unfolds a rich and riveting epic of an American spy. Harry Hubbard is the son and godson of CIA legends. His journey to learn the secrets of his society—and his own past—takes him through the Bay of Pigs, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the “momentous catastrophe” of the Kennedy assassination. All the while, Hubbard is haunted by women who were loved by both his godfather and President Kennedy. Featuring a tapestry of unforgettable characters both real and imagined, Harlot’s Ghost is a panoramic achievement in the tradition of Tolstoy, Melville, and Balzac, a triumph of Mailer’s literary prowess.
