Boston: Carter, Hendee and Company, 1833. First Edition. Full leather. Near fine. First edition of The Harbinger with poems by Oliver Wendell Holmes, published in 1833, from the Robert Hoe III book collection.. Small octavo, vi, 96pp. Full red morocco, gilt-ruled covers. Five raised bands, title in gilt on spine. All edges gilt, gilt turn-ins, marbled endpapers. Silk bookmark sewn in. This work is in three parts, with Poems by Park Benjamin in Part I, seventeen poems by Oliver Wendell Holmes in Part II, and poems by John O. Sargent in Part III. Solid text block, faint wear to joints, a near fine example. Previous ownership bookplate of Robert Hoe III affixed to front endpaper. (BAL 8723) Provenance: Anderson Galleries, April 1912, Lot 1559. Robert Hoe III was a prominent American businessman and book collector. He was a founding member and the first president of the Grolier Club of New York.
