About This Item

London: Adam and Charles Black, 1904. First edition. Cloth. Very Good. 9" by 7". Helen Allingham . A colourfully illustrated work on the life of Helen Allingham, including her topographical and artistic studies of England, written by Marcus B. Huish. First Edition, second printing. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Illustrated with eighty colour plates by Helen Allingham throughout the text. This is a lovely and charming work on the life of Helen Allingham and her life within England, with colourful drawings of British topography. Helen Allingham (1848-1926) was a British watercolourist and illustrator from the Victorian era. She contributed illustrations to a range of periodicals including 'The Graphic' newspaper, and made illustrations for the 1874 serialisation of Thomas HArdy's 'Far from the Madding Crowd'. Marcus Bourne Huish (1843-1921) was an English barrister, writer, and art dealer. He was the editor of 'The Art Journal' from 1881 to 1892 and was also the first Managing Director the Fine Art Society. Four pages of publisher's adverts to rear of text. Collated, complete. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, smart. Bumping and wear to the extremities and the spine, particularly to the head of spine. Some marks to boards with light fading to spine. A few spots and offsetting to endpapers. Bookseller's label to rear paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean throughout. Very Good
