Chatto & Windus,, 1882. 8vo., Third Edition, with chromolithographed frontispiece (original tissue guard present), and very numerous woodcut illustrations throughout; attractively bound in contemporary dark green half roan, marbled boards, back with four raised bands tooled in gilt, second compartment wanting original label (but lettering just legible in blind), red sprinkled edges, a very good, bright, clean copy. THIS COPY WAS FORMERLY IN THE LIBRARY OF MAJOR HENRY KENNY CLOUGH AND BEARS HIS ARMORIAL BOOKPLATE ON FRONT PASTE-DOWN. LOOSELY INSERTED IS A T.L.s DATED 1940 ON WINDOR CASTLE STATIONERY FROM O[WEN] MORSHEAD, ROYAL LIBRARIAN AT WINDSOR, REGARDING A BOOK DONATED BY CLOUGH TO THE ROYAL LIBRARY. Major Henry Kenny 'Laddie' Clough (1876-1970) served in the trenches in WWI with King's Own (Royal Lancaster) Regiment. In retirement he was a Military Knight of Windsor and friend of Morshead; his funeral was held at St. George's Chapel Windsor. AN EXCELLENT ASSOCIATION COPY.
