Hardcover, 4 5/8" x 6 3/4", dark navy boards with gilt lettering with red and white yin yang symbol painted on rear board, 6 folding maps, additional B & W illustrations, no dust jacket, [5] [i] ii-iv [4] 243 [1] [i] [ii-viii] [xx]. Very good, rubbed and worn cloth at spine ends, similar light wear and rubbing at cloth edges and corners with some curling to corner and soiling to sections. Map of Soochow with some tears, pp. 70-76 with some pencil markings, light water damage to perimeter of title page, otherwise minor wear to paper edges.. Carl Crow's revised second edition of Handbook for China published---along with all early printings---by the author in his settled home in Shanghai, where he lived since 1911 and had established the first Western advertising agency. This edition has 6 fold-out colored maps of China---including Shanghai, Soochow, Peking, Tientsin, Hong Kong---and additional B & W maps of the interior.
