1891. Kelly, Howard A. (1858-1943). Hand disinfection. Offprint from Am. J. Obstetrics and Diseases of Women and Children 24 (1891). 8pp. 229 x 152 mm. Original printed wrappers, vertically creased, light dust-soiling, small marginal tears. Presentation copy, with stamp reading "Compliments of the author" on the front wrapper. First Edition, Offprint Issue. Kelly's paper, written prior to Halsted's introduction of rubber gloves in surgery, concluded that "soap and water plus the permanganate of potash and oxalic acid are the only true germicides and therefore the best [hand] disinfectants we possess today.
