About This Item

Portland: Ivy Press, 1917. First Separate Edition. First printing; one of 100 copies according to Howes. Octavo (24cm); printed card wrappers with printed paper spine label; 185pp; frontispiece portrait; 2 folding maps, one inserted plate leaf. External wear, with shallow losses to spine ends and brief splits to wrappers at bound edge; internally tight with early pencil marginalia in an unknown hand; a presentable, Very Good copy.

A rarity, privately printed by Powell for distribution to friends. We trace two copies in commerce over the last century: the first in the Soliday sale (1945), another offered by Boston bookseller J.S. Canner in 1967. The work originally appeared serialized in 4 issues of the Oregon Historical Society journal, 1917. HOWES P524.
