Hokuseido, Japan. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/Very Good. BLYTH, R.H. Haiku, four volumes, Japan: Hokuseido Press, various dates. 12mo, beige cloth boards with black stamped lettering (kanji and roman) on spine and front, black stamped stars on front and spine to indicate which volume you are holding, halftone and color plates with tissue overlays that are printed with haiku, so that you see the illustration as you read the poem. Authors are Eastern and Western writers, some of whom will be immediately recognizable worldwide (Dickens and Confucius, for instance). 1. Eastern Culture, pp. xviii, 422, 26 plates, ticket of the Japanophile, publisher and bookseller Charles Tuttle on front paste-down, fine in a good jacket with a chip at the head of the spine and a short tear and wrinkles in the rear panel. Undated, no additional printings indicated, so presumed 1949 first edition. 2. Spring, pp. v, 382, 7 plates, fine in a near fine dust jacket with minor losses at head of spine, Tuttle ticket on front paste-down, 1960 fifth printing. 3. Summer-Autumn, pp. xv, 443, 13 plates, near fine with minor spotting at edges, dust jacket with minor loss at head of spine, Tuttle ticket on front paste-down, 1960 fourth printing. 4. Autumn-Winter, pp. xliii, 396, 18 plates, fold-out time line showing the progress of English and Japanese literatures, Tuttle ticket on front paste-down, near fine in a very good jacket with minor loss at head of spine, shelf wear to rear panel, 1952 first printing. Size: duodecimo. 4-volume set (complete). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact.
