About This Item

1790 1ed Hudson Bay MAP Quebec INDIANS Iroquois Tribe California Canada Trusler

'The Habitable World Described' is an enormous, fascinating history of the known world, collected and edited by John Trusler. This work contains descriptions on countries and people groups from all over the world written to given English readers an understanding of unknown regions.

This 1790 volume contains descriptions of the customs and people of Sweden, Denmark, and Persia, but perhaps the most interesting aspect of this volume is the vast information on the North America – Canada and California. This section details the customs of the Iroquois people, the Hurons, Miemis, and Oswego (all of whom are referred to as 'savages' throughout). Note the early maps of America and Canada with views of Indian tribes included.
