About This Item
[Washington, D.C.]: [G.P.O.], 1900. First edition. Tall octavo. 5[6] pp. Folded twice with the title printed on one of the facing panels. Old light stain in blank margin of last page. Very good. This is the finishing nail on the eight hour work day for employees of the Federal Government. A law to much the same effect was passed in 1876 but that was viewed as a recommendation and numerous conflicts arose. This bill sought to make the eight-hour day an undisputed law. It is interesting that all of Section 1 in this printing has been redacted (though only with a thin line so legibility remains). Small stamp on front reading "Portland, ME., Socialist Branch."
