Presentation Publication, 1893 Book. Very Good. Hardcover. White vellum binding with crisp gilt fancy borders onthe covers and decoration on the spine. The front cover has the H. B. Middleton's name in gilt in the centre. There is gilt decoration on the inside edges of covers as well and the book has marbled end papers. This is a personal presentation book which has been hand written and the red borders on each page have been hand painted. You can still see faint pencil lines used to regiment the text height. Each page is protected by its own tissue guard. The first inscriptionreads 'A list of past and present members of the Salisbury Diocesan Synod. Subscribing to a testimonial of silver, presented on the 12th of April 1893 by the Lord Bishop of the Diocese, to Hastings Burton Middleton Esq, on the occasion of having completed twenty one years of valuable services as its lay secretary. ' which is proceeded by the alphabetical listing of names. The Diocese of Salisbury is a Church of England diocese in the south of England. It covers Dorset and most of Wiltshire (excepting Swindon and a part of North Wiltshire), and is a constituent of the Province of Canterbury. The diocese isled by the Bishop of Salisbury, currently the Right Reverend David Stancliffe, and the diocesan synod. Salisbury Cathedral is the liturgical heart of the diocese. Condition: The binding is tight and firm and both covers are firmly attached. There is some minor wear to the extremities including bumping to the top and tail of the spine and the corners. Thecovers arelightly scuffed and rubbed. Internally the book is extremelyclean and bright throughout with an occasional handling mark..
