As New/None, As Issued. First Edition/First Printing. 350 pages. Retrospective collection of photographs. One of the most beautiful sports photography books of our time. Deluxe "Art" Edition of 200 numbered and signed copies. Precedes and should not be confused with the Limited Edition of 1500 copies. The Deluxe "Art" Edition is now rare. A glorious production by Neil Leifer and Taschen: Oversize-volume format. Pictorial hard boards with red-and-white silk cloth overboards and gilt titles embossed on the cover and spine, as issued. Photographs by Neil Leifer. Text by Jim Murray and Gabriel Schechter. 15 X 12 inch silver-gelatin print in glassine sheet neatly laid into the Back Page Slip of the book. Matching silk cloth slipcase. Cardboard box. Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper in Cologne, Germany to the highest standards. The reproduction quality is outstanding in every respect. Without DJ, as issued. Presents, in its Deluxe Edition format, Neil Leifer's "Guts And Glory: The Golden Age of American Football 1958-1978". THE photographic record of football's rise as the greatest American sport of our time. "Here are the most memorable moments since the birth of Pro Football in America. In 1958, sports photographer Neil Leifer took the picture that remains one of his most famous to this day. The day he got the shot of Alan Ameche's game-winning 'Sudden Death' touchdown was Leifer's 16th birthday. This game, called 'The Greatest Ever Played', signalled football's emergence as America's national pastime. Formerly half-empty stadiums welcomed sold-out crowds overnight as football surpassed baseball and basketball in national television ratings. It is his football pictures Leifer considers his best" (Publisher's blurb). An absolute "must-have" title for Neil Leifer collectors. This is a copy of the Deluxe "Art" Edition, indicated/numbered as such on the Front Limitation Page. It is very prominently and beautifully signed in blue pen-marker by Neil Leifer. It comes with an original 15 X 21 inch silver-gelatin print of "Alan Ameche, 1958", Neil Leifer's single most iconic image, indicated as such on verso, and is very prominently and beautifully signed in black ink-pen on recto by the photographer. This title is a great photography book. As far as we know, this is the only copy of the Deluxe "Art" Edition available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Taschen raised the price of its very last copies to - you better believe it - $3000, now all sold out. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare signed copy thus. Hundreds of plates, 1 original silver-gelatin print. Neil Leifer is widely regarded as the greatest American sports photographer of our time. A fine collectible copy. . ISBN 3836508400.
