About This Item

Racine: Western Publishing Company, 1969. Hardcover. Small 8vo. Glazed pictorial paper over boards. 210pp, (2pp ads). Pictorial endpapers. Very good. Faint edgewear, with text block slightly age toned as usual. First edition of this Western based on the popular long-running television series -- tight and nice -- with choice autograph addition: Tipped to blank leaf facing title page is a unique frontispiece, an irregularly-trimmed, roughly rectangular 2" X 4" slip boldly inscribed and signed by the star of this series: "Hi Don -- / Jim Arness." Very good. several tiny tape stains at margins. Though not dated, this dates from circa 1960 and the height of Arness's fame. Arness (1923-2011) was the older brother of actor Peter Graves, and although he appeared in many films, including "The Farmer's Daughter" (1947) and the sci-fi classic "The Thing from Another World" (1951), he will always be remembered as Marshall Matt Dillon from "Gunsmoke" (1955-75).
