About This Item

NY: Van Norstrand, 1863. Third. HB. Cover rubbed and wrinkled. Edges rubbed, inside G+/VG./No Jacket. [ATTRIBUTION-MANUAL-NAVY] . This an 1863 edition, stated third edition revised and enlarged. Nevins I-218 states the 1862 version has 88 pages, this one has 93 followed by many pages of book ads. Wonderful attribution. This copy belonged to Andre H. Rounds of Staunton, Mass. He had it aboard the USS Savannah at the New York Navy Yard on March 12, 1863. This information is recorded in pencil on the ffep. [My "Handbook of the U.S. Navy" states on page 241 that the Savannah was a sloop of war, seven guns ; 1726 tons and built at Brooklyn in 1842. She was converted into a training ship, assigned to the Brooklyn Navy Yard and was there 1862-4].
