About This Item
Garden City, NY: Doubleday & Co., 1968. Very good (slit in rear pastedown next to spine inside the book, but doesn't affect strength of binding) in very good dust jacket (price-clipped, very slightly edgeworn at the top). An interesting guide to African Americans in the US broken down by state and, within each state, by place so that one could use the book as a touring book. 247 pages including index to people and places. Preface by Senator Edward Brooke who writes that this is not a scholar's book but a book written for the general reader "to provide a comprehensive overview of the total role of black men and women in American life and history." Written during the height of the Civil Rights Movement, it is an interesting--historically interesting--and informative view of the African American's role seen through the eyes of its white author.. 1st Edition. Hard Cover.
