Good Copy in it's original light grey paper covered boards with paper title to spine.There is one previous owner's name to the top edge of the title page and one ownert's date to the top edge of the front pastedown.The book comes housed in a purpose made solander box with marbled paper appearance to the covers and with brown buckram cloth that contains it's own paper title label.The half title page is present along with the fold out frontispiece map of the lakes. and which is in very good order.The inner contents of the book remain clean,with uncut page edges.Slight looseness to the front hinge binding with stitching showing but to be expected with this scarce original binding.Outer boards are a little marked in places.8vo 313pp plus 3 pages of Literary ads to rear of the book.Sixth Edition of 1796 Guide to the Lakes: Initially published in 1778 the book was a major success and as well as being regarded aas the first guidebook to the Lakes,West was the first Author to challenge the view of the wild and reather savage North.It was influential at a time when Grand Tours were popular and it was the beginning of true tourism for the Lakes.The book ran to 7 editions before the turn of the Century,sadly West died before he completed his second account of the Lakes . Good. Hardcover. First Edition. 1st Printing. 1796.
