A sturdy, well-designed academic study and history, with a range of charts focusing on some founding families of Salem, Massachusetts, as developed by 1800, post American Revolution. Families include Archer, Moulton, Becket, Crowninshield, Derby, Silsbee, Boardman, Hodges, Sparhawk, Higginson, Cabot. Some occupations and intermarriages are detailed. Puritan families, occupations, Socioeconomjc patterns, and influences on changing family structures are woven into the study. Author Farber academic focus is on family studies. Early page have individual sentances underlined in pencil by prior owner. Records kept by the Essex Institute were a valuable tool for researching. There is mysterious "mottling" discoloration to the fabric of the book cover, without any odor.
