About This Item

CarTech, 2011-01-11. paperback. Good. 8x0x11. Moderate shelf wear, light creasing to covers, binding tight, several page corners have creasing, pages clean and unmarked. The growth of drag racing from the late 1950s through the 1980s was nothing shortT of spectacular, and Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins was,-t-here through all of it. He was instru-mental in the sport, from his technical contributions (on the track and in the rulebook) to his prowess under the hood and behind the wheel. Grumpy's Toys follows Jenkins' career through the cars he developed. This fascinat-- ing introspective showcases the innovation and record-setting performances of the many competition vehicles he worked on, including his long line of personal cars. The stories behind all of Grumpy's legendary Toys are here, but so are the tales and truths about the many other cars, teams, and drivers Jenkins has worked with (and against) in his five decades as one of the premier engine masters in drag racing's history. Author Doug Boyce has invested countless hours in researching Jenkins' career, and spent time with the man himself to verify all the information he acquired. It's all collected and archived here between the covers of Grumpy's Toys. Doug Boyce turned his first wrench at age 8 and attended his first drag race at 10. By 14, he was working on restoring cars and swapping engines. Now 49, Doug has worked on many drag cars and has written several articles for automotive magazines. He spent 15 years as an automotive technician and still enjoys turning wrenches for fun. He's been a fan of Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins since age 12 and first met Jenkins at a West Coast match race in 1975. He's followed Grumpy's career ever since.
