First gift edition, signed by both the author and illustrator on the title page, with an original small ink drawing of the mouse by Scheffler alongside his signature. The Gruffalo was first published in 1999 and won the Smarties Book Prize in the same year. Copies of the first edition of this work are notably scarce.
