The Growth of Lincoln's Faith

by HORNER, Harlan Hoyt

Condition: See description

New York: The Abingdon Press, 1939. Hardcover. Small 8vo. Blind-embossed green ribbed cloth with gilt lettering. 176pp. Frontispiece, illustrations. Near fine/good plus. Pictorial price-clipped dust jacket quite edgeworn and with sunned spine, but complete and overall appealing. A tight and quite attractive first edition. Front pastedown bears 1939 ownership signature of George S. Henninger of Indianapolis, IN, pastor of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church of that city, now named in his honor. Henninger underlines a few words and places several margin checkmarks in the text, all in pencil, and pencils only one margin comment: Appropriately, "Thank God!" The pastor perhaps had a sizeable Lincoln collection, as below his signature he notes "Vol. 1501." Rather uncommon, especially in the jacket. MONAGHAN 3684.
