About This Item

Chicago Illinois: Goodspeed Brothers, 1886. Early days in Greene County, MO, are recalled in this 11" x 8.5" spiral-bound booklet, comprised of excerpts from Goodspeed Brothers: A Reminiscent History of The Ozark Region (1886), Missouri, A Guide to the "Show Me" State, a 1941 WPA publication, The State of Missouri, an Autobiography (a publication written for the Louisiana Purchase Exposition), and other sources. The 42-page booklet is printed on 60# paper. A vinyl sheet has been added to protect the front cover. The first part of the booklet contains a history of the Ozark area, especially as it relates to Missouri, two brief histories of the county, and bios of leading citizens. The WPA section has a section on Ozark folklore, a special section on Springfield with points of interest, and tour stops at Strafford, Springfield, Republic, Wilson's Creek Battlefield, Ash Grove, and Sequiota State Park. The Louisiana Purchase Exposition book takes a 1904 look at the area. The biographies, most of which quite detailed, include: Gov. John S. Phelps, R.N. Gray, Judge James J. Gideon (with picture), Col. J.C. Cravens, Col. S.H. Boyd, Capt. Jared E. Smith, B.C. Burgess, Charles R. Fulbright, Granville H. Vaughan, Dr. Thomas R. Appleby, A. Harrington (with picture), Capt. Alfred M. Julian (with picture), Col. Homer F. Fellows (with picture), Charles Galloway (with picture), Waldo G. Gideon, Lilburn H. Murray, Thomas J. Gideon, R.L. Goode, Bradford Norbury, Daniel Curran Kennedy, and Thomas J. Delaney. . Limited Edition Reprint. Spiral/Comb . New/No Jacket. 11" x 8.5". Private Press.
