About This Item

The Detective Book Club produced volumes of three crime novels from 1942 to 1999. Originally monthly, near the end they dwindled down to just a few per year. Many famous detective and crime novelists had their early works featured in DBC editions. Often, books were published in DBC editions before, or at the same time as they were published in mass market form. A little about our authors:

John D MacDonald: Another well known author, MacDonald created the Travis McGee character, whom he featured in 21 novels, each with a different color in the title. MacDonald authored over 45 other novels and four nonfiction books. The Green Ripper is the eighteenth Travis McGee novel.

Leslie Charteris: Charteris is well known as the creator of his character Simon Templar, also known as The Saint. Charteris published over 60 books about the Saint, which lead to two television series and a movie. This is the 48th Saint novel.

Collin Wilcox: Also known as Carter Wick, Wilcox is best known as the creator of Sam McCloud, which became a television series starring Dennis Weaver. The series ran from 1970 to 1977. He also created three other detective series, with the most prolific being the Frank Hastings series, with 19 novels. Wilcox died in 1996. This is the ninth Frank Hastings novel.

Synopsis

The Green Ripper is the eighteenth of 21 Travis McGee novels written by John D. McDonald. It won the National Book Award for the category of mystery in 1980, and was the first and only book in that category to receive the award. The plot is centered on revenge against a secretive, terrorist cult that is responsible for killing McGee's lover Gretel. The title is a word play on the name of the Grim Reaper.
