About This Item
London: Grey Walls Press, 1945. Cloth. Very Good Indeed/Very Good Indeed. 9" by 6". Felix Kelly. The first edition of Herbert Read's only novel to feature illustrations. An excellent example of this wonderful piece of fantasy, brought to life by Kelly's colour plates. Read's only novel, this work was first published in 1935 and was inspired by the twelfth century legend of two green children who appeared in Woolpit, England, speaking an unknown language.Written by anarchist, historian and philosopher Herbert Read, one of the first English writers to notice existentialism. With four colour plates by Felix Kelly.Complete with a clipped dust wrapper. Prior gift inscription to the front endpaper, 'To Sam with Grammie Madras love, 1947'. In the publisher's original full cloth binding with a clipped dust wrapper. Externally very smart, with just slight bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. Dust wrapper is a little sunned to the spine, which is a touch chipped at the head and tail, with the odd mark to the boards. Prior owner's inscription to the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good Indeed
