Pages are otherwise very clean and clear.). Two volume set bound in gray cloth boards with black lettering; gray dust jackets with bw illustrations, black lettering, mylar cover. Volume 1 has a bw frontispiece and title page, xi, 380 pp; bw illustrations. Volume 2 has a bw frontispiece and title page, unpaginated with 881 bw plates. Volume 1 is text. Volume 2 is plates containing more than 900 high quality illustrations and reconstructions. Also included are a glossary of Greek and Latin terms and translations of ancient literay and epigraphical testimonia.
"The book begins with an intro to Greek art and culture, a thorough investigation of certain aspects of that culture as it relates to sculpture-making, and a discussino of five individual monuments of power and complexity that evolved according to different sets of circumstances. The second section presents a chronological history of Greek sculpture. The third part of t he book analyzes primary evidence for the lives and achievements of almost 100 sculptors, including translated testimonia, attested works, and speculative attributions."- dust jacket.
