About This Item
Edison, New Jersey, U.S.A.: Stewart Tabori & Chang, 1989. Hardcover. Fine. Book. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. 456 pp., beautifully illustrated with photographs of Greek Revival mansions, interiors, public buildings. Roger Kennedy was the head of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and author of several lavish books on architecture. This is perhaps his most magnificent production, and it has become one of the standard references on the style, which had not received a good treatment for several decades. Greek Revival is far more than just another architectural style; it expressed the hopes and pretensions of the early Republic, and it is that sentimental or philosophical attachment which makes the study of it so much richer than merely the admiration of old buildings.
