About This Item

New York: George H. Doran,, 1918. First edition (1918.) Hardcover without dust jacket. 8vo with 61 pages. Presentation copy by Laurette Taylor to fellow actor H. B. Warner who appeared on tour with her, "To H. B. Warner In memory of the Tour-Laurette Taylor 1918." The release of this book, and the tour itself, was to raise funds for victims of World War I. Oddly enough, H. B. Warner's photographic portrait is missing from this book. H. B. Warner (1876-1958) was an English film and theatre actor. He appeared in numerous films directed by Frank Capra. Warner's most notable role to modern audiences is Mr. Gower in the perennially shown film It's a Wonderful Life, directed by Capra. He appeared in the original 1937 version of Lost Horizon as Chang, for which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He also had a cameo in Sunset Boulevard, directed by Billy Wilder. The book is in fair condition with shelf wear. rubbing to edges, fraying to top of spine and fraying to bottom of spine, Foxing to end papers, previous book plate of Arthur E. Clark on front paste down and 'Bijou Theatre' written on front paste down. Brown spine white label/black text. #031011. Signed. First Edition. Hardcover. Fair/No DJ. 8vo. Plays.
