Synopsis

A Great and Terrible Beauty is the first novel in the Gemma Doyle Trilogy by Libba Bray. It is told from the perspective of Gemma Doyle, a girl in the late 1800s. Once there, she is plagued by clairvoyant visions as she looks into the magical secrets of the school with her three friends Felicity Worthington, Pippa Cross and Ann Bradshaw.

Reviews

On Apr 19 2008, BayShore Books LLC said:
“A Great and Terrible Beauty” may have been written as a novel for teens; however, the historical setting, mystery, fantasy, and touch of romance are just as appealing for adults. Libba Bray masterfully explains the trials and tribulations for women in the Victorian era and relates the characters to modern life.
