About This Item
London: Rowland Ward, Limited, 1899., 1899. Signed Limited Edition. 1-500 copies numbered and signed by the publisher, Rowland Ward. This being number 100. Tall, heavy 4to. xx, 612 pp. With fifteen hand-colored plates by J. Smit (each with a printed tissue guard) and numerous photogravure illustrations by E. Caldwell and others. 3/4 black leather binding with green cloth; 5 raised spinal bands. Many of the most noted big game hunters of the time contributed towards this defining work of African hunting, including Harry Johnston, and F. C. Selous. The major contributor was noted naturalist, Richard Lydekker. Ex library (Museums Trustees of Kenya) with appropriate canceled stamps. The binding is very tight with some rubbing of the leather at the extremities. Scattered foxing on the plates as is typical, else this is a very good book. Scarce.. Signed by Author(s). 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good.
