An especially sharp copy of the 1871 1st edition of this impressive history of the Great Chicago Fire of Oct. 8th-10th, 1871, killing approximately 300 people. Clean and Near Fine in its gilt-titled and decorated front panel and spine. Light foxing to the preliminaries, small, neat former owner presentation at the front free endpaper. Thick octavo, a number of full-page engravings, fold-out map complementing the text. (From the title page: "Embracing a Detailed Narrative of the Great Conflagration in the North, South and West Divisions: Origin, Progress and Results of the Fire. Prominent Buildings Burned, Character of Buildings, Losses and Insurance, Graphic Description of the Flames, Scenes and Incidents, Loss of Life, the Flight of the People. Also, A Condensed History of Chicago, Its Population, Growth and Great Public Works. And a Statement of All the Great Fires of the World."
