Two volumes complete. Bound in red cloth with gilt lettering to spine panels. John Chipman Gray bookplates to both front pastedowns. His copies. Gray, a noted lawyer, legal scholar and Harvard professor, co-founded the now global and prominent law firm of Ropes and Gray. Vol. I: [i-vii] viii-x [xi] xii [xiii-xiv] [1] 2-[1] 2-335 [336]. Vol. II: [i-viii] [1] 2-347 [348]. Collated and complete as issued. Frontis illustrations (map and rendering). Appendices include official documents and papers. Both volumes tight and unmarked with bumped corners, wrinkling to heads and tails of spine panels, faded gilt to spine panels and several small water stains to board cloth. Note also that both volumes are largely unopened, as issued from the publisher. A presentable set of an important Suez Canal collectible.
