Sixth edition, revised and augmented, 1906. A Very Good copy. 16mo., lxvi, 606 pp., with folding map frontispiece and numerous color maps, many folding. Bound in limp red cloth with the title on the spine and front panel in gilt. All edges marbled. Spine and joints moderately rubbed, tear in cloth on spine. Frontis map slightly has a closed tear at its bound in edge. Verlag Karl Baedeker, founded by Karl Baedeker on 1 July 1827, is a German publisher and pioneer in the business of worldwide travel guides. The guides, often referred to simply as "Baedekers" (a term sometimes used to refer to similar works from other publishers, or travel guides in general), contain, among other things, maps and introductions; information about routes and travel facilities; and descriptions of noteworthy buildings, sights, attractions and museums, written by specialists.
